Transitional Service Tools (TST)

FastTrack’s Transitional Service Tools (TST) are designed to provide for a more straightforward identification of Short Term Disability (STD) Return-to-Work (RTW) opportunities with a claimant’s current employer (with accommodations, transitional work assignments and/or additional medical management). This automated “best practice” methodology provides Benefit Specialists with specific data to perform outreach activities with claimants, employers and Attending Physicians to positively affect early RTW outcomes during the STD claims process.



Unique Product Features


Step 1 – Collect the Physical Capabilities Form (PCF) Data:

FastTrack’s Physical Capabilities Form (PCF) provides a superior way of capturing the claimant’s physical and mental/nervous Restrictions & Limitations (R&L’s) data as compared to traditional text driven medical notes.  A checkbox driven document is provided to the Attending Physician on which he or she is able to record and quantify the claimant’s ability to sit, stand, walk, drive, bend, lift, carry, handle, use a computer, etc. and to make notes relative to depression, anxiety, PTSD, etc.  Traditional medical notes and Attending Physician Statements (APS) typically are limited to asking if the claimant is disabled and are backed up by basic R&L details, open ended adjudication questions and often undecipherable conclusions.

The FastTrack PCF provides the Insurer with a much more comprehensive survey of the claimant’s abilities and R&L data thereby improving objective RTW analysis. The FastTrack PCF readily lends itself to digitization as part of an automated STD claims RTW process and furnishes your Benefit Specialist with:

  • Customized state-specific & carrier-specific PCF forms which can be completed by the physician/medical provider via the Internet, fax, email or by mail
  • Automatic follow-up requests for the physician/medical provider to complete the PCF
  • Carrier access to completed PCF input
  • Storage of claimant data by user defined unique identifier (i.e. claim #, claimant name, etc.)

Step 2 – Select the Specific Occupation from the FastTrack Occupational Library or Job Description Library:

Based on Policy Definition the Carrier and/or Self Insured Employer can utilize FastTrack’s Intelligent Occupational Library (with 13,000+ potential occupations) or FastTrack’s Job Description Customizable Templates (1,300+) or utilize FastTrack’s Traditional Job Description conversion services to house and store Jobs Description by Employer, Location and Job Title for use when an actual claim requires RTW processing.

The Intelligent Occupational Library and/or Job Description Templates include such criteria as:

  • Description of duties
  • Work hours
  • Work activities (i.e. Sit, Walk, Stand, Drive, Push, Climb, Heights, Kneel, Crawl)
  • Weight lifting requirements of job


Step 3 – FastTrack Automatically Creates the Occupational Matching Report Comparing Occupations and/or Job Descriptions to the PCF:

FastTrack’s Occupational Matching Report answers key RTW questions such as:

  • Who can potentially return to their current occupation with accommodations
  • Who can potentially be considered for Transitional Work Assignments based on injury type, expected length of recovery, rehabilitation process, etc. with their current employer
  • Who should continue with their existing medical rehabilitation plan because they have no capacity at the current time to perform their current occupation

This process can be repeated based on updated medical evaluations of the claimant throughout the lifecycle of the STD claim.
